Farther along N. Highway 12, you come to the massive development of Ocean Sands, where literally thousands of homes are spread out over several miles. On the west side of the road farther north is the Currituck Club, a golfing community with a prestigious links-style course, a clubhouse and restaurant, and exclusive homes. These are the two major tourist attractions in the area. Everyone loves climbing the lighthouse, and people return year after year to see the restored historic club and attend all the fun events held there.
The Center for Wildlife Education offers a wide variety of educational programs and a natural trail. Just north of the lighthouse is Historic Corolla village. Park along the shoreline in a single row of vehicles no more than one vehicle deep. It is recommended that you wash the vehicle after each outing, both sheet metal and undercarriage. If You Get Stuck — Park Rangers may assist you, but they are not permitted to pull or tow other vehicles. Commercial towing services are available.
Do not litter — Please deposit all trash in trash containers wherever available or by bagging and removing it from the beach. Please avoid littering the beach with dead bait, carcasses or other dead fish of any kind. Avoid overcrowding any one area and displacing others from their previously chosen spots.

Do not drive on or between the dunes. Driving or parking on vegetation is prohibited. Observe posted speed limits. The speed limit on park beaches is 15 mph unless otherwise posted. Reckless driving ie: cutting circles or defacing the beach is prohibited.
Avoid driving or parking on the wrack line. The wrack line is a line of stranded natural debris on the beach left by a previous high tide that can be an important food source for birds. Open containers of any type of alcoholic beverage are prohibited in vehicles. Public consumption of spirituous liquors or fortified wines is prohibited. The use of seat belts is required. Do not hang out of moving vehicles or sit on the tailgate or roof.
Those in truck beds must be seated on the floor with the tailgate closed. Children in truck beds must be accompanied by an adult. Check the weather forecast and tide tables before starting your trip. AWD does not work in soft sand. We strongly encourage your tire pressure to be psi. Lower your tire pressure in our Corolla office parking lot, prior to traveling to the North Beach Access ramp to the 4x4 beaches.
No vehicle of any type may park or unload at the North Beach Access at any time. Complimentary air hoses are available in the parking lot of the Corolla office for guests staying in the 4x4 area to re-inflate their tires. Check the tide prior to arrival; low tide is ideal for beach driving: Outer Banks Tide Chart. Arrive before dark, as the beach is more difficult to navigate at night. The speed limit is 35 mph unless posted otherwise 15 mph when within feet of pedestrians or wild horses.
Avoid driving through the surf and seafoam - salt water is extremely corrosive. Drive either on the hard-packed sand near the edge of the water or on the soft sand just east of the dune line. Leave the middle of the beach for parked vehicles and beach-goers. All parked vehicles should be in the middle of the beach east of the dune line and west of the hard-packed sand near the water's edge. Do not block the flow of traffic with chairs, coolers, fishing lines, or any other items.
Always be alert for moving vehicles when walking across the hard-packed sand. There is no parking for the first approximately 1. Look for the sign to mark where parking begins. Violators will be towed. Currituck County does not permit ATVs or allow personal motorized watercraft on the ocean. Jet skis and personal motorboats are allowed on the Currituck Sound.
